The Alumni

The University of Plymouth Rowing Club Alumni Foundation connects former rowers with the club’s ongoing journey, preserving the community and spirit that shaped their university experience. Through continued involvement and support, alumni can help strengthen opportunities for future athletes.

The University of Plymouth Rowing Club (UPRC) is the centre of student rowing in Plymouth, welcoming rowers of all abilities to train, compete, and grow. With coaching on the River Dart and a strong team culture, the club offers a supportive environment for development.

UPRC competes at races across the UK and is known for its inclusivity, resilience, and lasting friendships formed through the sport.

Club History

2000 – University of Plymouth Rowing Club is founded as a students’ union sports club, opening rowing to complete beginners and experienced athletes.

2000s – Club grows steadily, racing regionally and at university events.

2014 – Dart Totnes Rowing Club coach Steve begins coaching the University of Plymouth Rowing Club, marking the start of a long-term performance link on the River Dart and helping deliver BUCS medals (gold and silver).

2018 – Plymouth University appears in the British Rowing Senior Championships (women’s U23 lightweight 2x).

2020 – UPRC releases a short promo video on YouTube, showcasing land and water training and using social media to boost recruitment and visibility. Watch Here

2022 – British Rowing’s BUCS Regatta preview highlights Plymouth University sending 16 athletes to BUCS, describing it as a rebuilding year post-pandemic with strong focus on beginner quads.

2024 – The club saw strong progression across all squads, with senior women achieving solid results at WEHoRR, BUCS, MET and Henley Women’s.

2025 – Silver (25th) anniversary of the rowing club and launch of the University of Plymouth Rowing Club Alumni Foundation.
